IIRC a couple of weeks ago someone said that there would be 10 or 12 resignations from Congress over the next 2 weeks. Anyone else remember that?

Around 25 years ago when J. Orlin Grabbe was posting at the now defunct “Lessez Faire Times” website, he explained something odd that happened in 1990. In that year an unusually large number of powerful senators and congressmen called it quits. Grabbe said that a group of CIA folks who labeled themselves the Fifth Column had gathered information on these people. The senators and congressmen received envelopes full of information on crimes for which they could be indicted and imprisoned, but they were told that if they left public life, that info would never see the light of day. If they attempted to continue with their political careers, however, the next envelope would contain their indictments.

My own personal theory was that this was in preparation for the election of Ross Perot in 1992, but that didn’t happen because Perot was a failed vessel. The people behind Perot, however, were almost all from Naval Intelligence. I don’t think that was a coincidence.

I suspect we’re seeing the same phenomenon again with more retirements coming in the next few weeks, all in preparation for the election of Trump.
