Hmm, three J-69 engines. Same engine that was in the T-37s. Turned JP-4 into 300 decibels of dog whistle noise.
My 700 hours in that aircraft is the reason I'm going deaf in my old age. Those VZ-9 test pilots are probably all dead, but died without hearing a thing either.

I don’t believe that 300 decibels number in the least. Re-entry is only around 180db. If sound pressure doubles every 5db, you can see this is impossible.
