Russia actually made it into Avdiivka? This is my first hearing about it. A month ago, the suggestion that Russians could ever enter that city was laughed at here.

Russians have been moving forward. Retreating. Then slamming the ukes with artillery when they over take their previous position. Then moving forward again. They are grinding the Ukrainians down.

Avdiivka is an inner suburb of Donetsk, the capital of Russian-occupied Ukraine since 2014. For all the Russian bluster, they have failed to secure a viable toe-hold in Ukraine after a decade of slaughter.if in February 2022 anybody had suggested that nearly two years later the Russians would still be battling for inches in freaking Avdiivka they’d have laughed.

For months now Russians have been trying to do at Avdiivka what they did over around eight months at Bakhmut, only without the services of the Wagner Group, which, say what you want about them, knew how to do it.

At Avdiivka Russians have made some progress, at enormous costs in lives and equipment, sometimes said to be over 1,000 killed per day.
On other days Ukrainians have pushed them back a bit, though net-net, Russians have advanced slowly around Avdiivka.

Still, the battle is far from over and bleeding of Russian troops is thought to outnumber Ukrainians by several to one.
