Some years ago, I was driving from York, PA to Dillsburg via Rt 74 which goes through State Game Lands.
A bit in the distance I saw several female turkeys flying across the road from one stand of trees to the other. They were not flying very high but high enough.
Then the Tom turkey made the attempt.
There was a large pickup truck in front of me and let’s just say Tom flew slow and low and didn’t clear the pickup. If you ever want to know what it looks like when a turkey blows up, I think I can tell you.
I can also tell you what it’s like to pick turkey feathers out of the grill of a car and raw turkey meat off of a windshield, because even though I didn’t hit the bird and was following a “safe” distance behind the pickup, that bird blowed up real good.
An F-4 hitting a turkey vulture is exponentially worse.
