‘Democracy Dies In Darkness’? Dems Overwhelmingly Back Big Tech/Gov’t Censorship: I&I/TIPP Poll

Americans have come to realize that being online can mean having your speech rights curtailed. But that doesn’t mean they like it. Indeed, they mostly oppose the idea, in particular when it’s Big Tech and Big Government censoring together, according to the latest I&I/TIPP Poll.

With growing complaints over online censorship, the online national I&I/TIPP Poll, taken from Nov. 1-3, asked 1,400 respondents the following question: “Do you approve or disapprove of Big Tech companies working with federal agencies to engage in online censorship?”

For most people, the answer is negative. Of those who responded, 43% say they either disapproved of government and large tech and social media firms cooperating with each other to curb Americans’ speech “strongly” (26%) or “somewhat” (17%).

By comparison, 36% say they approve of it “strongly” (18%) or “somewhat” (18%). A significantly large group, 22%, say they were “not sure.”

The poll has a +/-2.7 percentage point margin of error.

But, the relative closeness of the response is deceptive. When broken down by demographics and political affiliation, surprisingly sharp differences between and within different groups emerge.

Start with politics. Democrats overwhelmingly approve of Big Tech and Big Government censoring online content, 57% “approve” to just 25% “disapprove.”

Compare that with Republicans, who are almost exactly the opposite of the Dems in their response: 26% “approve,” vs. 54% “disapprove.” Similarly, independents “approve” by just 21%, while they “disapprove” by 52%. Republicans and independents are nearly identical, while Democrats are the outlier.

I am surprised by how many were not sure.

The Dems didn’t always supported censorship. In fact, they fought for extreme interpretations of the First Amendment.

...and then used their victories from that fight to get into power, so that they could then CENSOR their opposition.

I’m surprised at how few Republicans were opposed.

Fascists must be fascists. Fascism has always been a movement of the leftist regressives. Antifa, a willing tool of the deep state, doesn’t oppose fascism, they just want their Communist version of it.

“I’m surprised at how few Republicans were opposed.”

There must be a lot of Nikki Haleys in our party.

Democrats are fully conscious of the political bias of both the fedgov and big tech.

It would be interesting to see a poll that included a followup question along the lines of, “Now assume that Donald Trump is reelected and now it is Trump appointees coordinating online censorship with the media companies, and leaning on the media companies to conform though various regulatory pressures.”

Put Trump (or any conservative) in the equation and Democrats would be 100 percent opposed. And that’s before the drop box responses were counted; after that, Democrats would be 325 percent opposed.

Democrats increasingly approve of censorship because democrats increasingly think they are on the cusp of permanent one party rule.

Democrats are haters.

I have slowly come to realize that.

Even the ones that you know, and you meet every day.
Their mask of civility is only a self defense mechanism, to adapt to surviving socially.

But these people want to oppress you. They are convinced that they are the good and enlightened ones, and that all their anger and spite is justified. You cannot deprogram them with witty quips or sincere conversation.

So yes, of course they want to censor you. There is no fairplay when it comes to the war on you

Similar to One Man, One Vote, One Time.

Those RATs who want the censorship would reverse that opinion if the government was controlled by the right.

RATs are just as Milei says “shit leftists”. They are no good liars.

It makes you wonder whether she saw the poll before her pronouncement that there should not be on-line anonimity, thought to build out her support from that 25 % of Republicans

I agree. They have a false sense of superiority yet everything they touch turns to garbage.

“‘Democracy Dies In Darkness’? Dems Overwhelmingly Back Big Tech/Gov’t Censorship: I&I/TIPP Poll”

‘Democracy Dies due to Social Media (like TikTok), the Lame Street Media (like CNN and MSNBC) and the Democrats who lie about all the time about how great their policies are.

There, fixed it
