I live-trapped about 8 coons here this year. We are in a remote area with woods near the house. Damn coons were destroying my mouse traps around the perimeter of the house, not just eating the bait, but ripping the traps apart. My live-trap stays out there waiting for the next one....it is empty this morning. Has been 3 weeks since I got one. Coons are nasty and destructive.
They also carry rabies. They can rip apart a cheap live trap too. I went with the one I bought because I don’t have to get my hands close to open the door to let it out, somewhere else.
You might try the trap I mentioned at #1123. I have not used them but people rave about them. I understand that you can hang it on a tree to catch them climbing. I don't think it could be considered 'humane'; as you say: 'Coons are nasty and destructive.' In some situations we don't feel so humane when we are overrun! 😎
