We have Coyote hunters here that use traps and poison that catch and kill more dogs and cats than Coyotes.
I have a live trap for Raccoons that come too close to the house. My Mountain Curs had one treed in the back yard once. I finally couldn’t take the baying anymore and put out the live trap. Got it in minutes. We took it to a very remote area and turned it loose. It was a juvenile, about half grown.
I prefer a good rifle with a scope for Coyotes.
Same goes for sharks in the Keys.
It has been a lot of time since I have done trapping... what is a 'live' trap? Apparently not a clam tooth spring type, which could injure the leg. What worked so fast? ...curious...
There are effective lures and baits for raccoons. I wonder if there are coyote scents that would attract coyote and repel dogs and cats...?
As a side note.... the most beautiful fur coat I ever saw (and tried on!) was made from Alaskan coyotes. The guy who owned it had shot them himself and had the coat made. For years I had a standing offer of "bring me a coyote and I'll let you take a deer." Unfortunately, I don't think Tennessee coyotes would be nearly as pretty.
