The latest in a series of crises, the Israel-Hamas war is turning a perfect storm for colleges and universities into a tsunami. In polls taken before October, only 36 percent of Americans said they have confidence in higher education, down from 57 percent in 2015. A majority think higher education isn’t worth the time and money; two years ago, almost 60 percent thought it was. Student debt totals $1.75 trillion, up 75 percent in the last 10 years. Most Americans think higher education is unaffordable and is going in the wrong direction.

1000 % agree ! Seize the massive college endowments to pay off the student debts incurred to obtain worthless college degrees.

The student loan money went TO the colleges. Take it back to liberate the defrauded students !!

Cosmic justice !!!

The best advice is to study science, technology, math, engineering or medical at a state university.

One solution to cut costs and make college more affordable is that professors don't need to make more than about $65.000 a year.

Another solution is to remove the requirement for a college degree from many white collar jobs.

Pennsylvania's Democrat governor is actually taking the lead on this, removing the requirement for a college degree from many state jobs. Others should follow his example.

Doctors and engineers need college degrees. Someone sitting at a desk doing admin work doesn't.

For the students looking to just round out their educational experience modern college isn’t worth it. Unless the degree is necessary for medical, engineering, law etc… Better option for others are trade schools and specialized skills learning. Can’t imagine being a college graduate owing multiple thousands in school loans and nothing else to show for it other than degree credentials one can’t use for employment leverage. The leftard claptrap BS is additional bloat of crap in the process.

It’s all the administrative positions not professors.

We will not make progress in correcting higher education until thought leaders and lawgivers are heard to frequently say, “Going to college is not for everyone; learning a marketable skill is a good option.”

And this: “State universities don’t need that much money. Let’s cut the budget again this year.”

7. Make the colleges/universities co-sign all student loans. If the student defaults the colleges/universities have their accounts garnished until the loan is paid in full.

Colleges today are nothing but Leftist puppy mills.

(and I’m a college professor saying this.......)

With respect to the trades, specifically technical colleges, I’ve never understood the palpable division and animosity between the academic and technical departments.

The goal, or so I thought, was to prepare students for successful careers in their chosen trade with a well balanced technical as well as academic education thereby becoming productive and self-sufficient individuals.

Apparently, it’s all a big power play of control between these two areas of education with the student woefully ending up with the short stick.

That being said, it’s recently come to my attention that the majority of provost positions over the technical trades at my alma mater are going to women with nothing more than academic credentials.

WTF is up with that. How can a technical college seriously think of being successful when academic women folk are making the important decisions on the majority of the technical training? Totally illogical.

Concur, I have had several bosses without one college credit and no one could tell. Both had a masters degree from the college of hard knocks.

In order to get a degree, students are required to take a bunch of junk courses from non-essential (collectivist) departments.

Save money and months of school just by making these classes optional and not covered by government aid.
