We had a couple in the house I grew up in.

Cattywampus=cockeyed. “That pitcher looks a little cattywampus”. Calf slobber=meringue. “She left the calf slobber off the nanner pudding”. Note: Calf slobber might be country rather than hillbilly. There’s a distinction. As a “furriner,” I don’t always catch the nuances.

I used that word cattywampus toward my wife one day after we first met. She said she had never heard of that word. I told her what it meant, she said it was a made up word. so I showed it to her in the dictionary.
