Nurse Michele had big plans to enjoy the outdoors and hike the beautiful countryside of Maine. But, While enjoying fall break with family in the beautiful state of Maine, Nurse Michele broke her hip during a canoeing expedition, landing herself inside the hospital where her role was switched from caregiver to patient.
This episode follows her harrowing journey, having to be rescued initially by Family, Lakeside, carried by EMS from the shore to the ambulance, and then transported from the ambulance into the state of Maine Northern Light medical care system.
Nurse Michele, 22 hours away from her Georgia residence where all her established medical care resided, had no choice but to navigate her own self-advocacy as a trauma patient from the ER into Radiology, into the operating room, and then to the medical surgical floor.
Discharging from the hospital would begin the next journey of self-advocacy as a patient requiring hours of driving and four hours of flight to finally arrive home, only to meet new obstacles within the Georgia medical care system just to gain access to quality medical care.
