Bernie Marcus, the billionaire co-founder of the Home Depot chain of home improvement stores, has endorsed Donald Trump for president, writing that the GOP front-runner is the best person to restore American prosperity and to dismantle an "administrative state" that he claims is strangling the country.
In a scathing assessment of America, Marcus, 94, gave his backing to the former president via an op-ed on Real Clear Politics, writing that he believes the nation is on a perilous trajectory after three years under President Biden’s leadership.
He wrote that American cities are crime-ridden, citizens are struggling to pay for necessities, the border is wide-open and freedoms are being curtailed as "the government gets bigger and weaponized against its political opponents."
The only people benefiting from America’s decline are the elite, Marcus wrote, and the only candidate who can restore the nation to its former grandeur is Trump. He called for the Republican National Committee to scrap the debates and row in behind Trump, arguing the debates only benefit ad makers and political consultants.
"Many of our once-great cities have devolved into lawlessness with random violent attacks on innocent people, rampant looting, and large-scale homeless encampments," Marcus wrote.
"Moreover, our southern border is unprotected, and millions of people we know nothing about pour into our nation to receive care and benefits that we cannot afford to provide to our struggling military veterans. Worse, many of the border crossers may be gang members who commit violent crimes here."
"Schoolchildren across America cannot read, write, or do basic math, while our educational leaders tell us that they know better than parents how to raise our children," he continued.
"Working men and women are struggling to provide for their families and must raid their retirement funds just to feed, clothe, and take care of

Bernie’s looking great!
My sense is that the country is getting ready to bust out big for the Republican ticket.
Never happen, at least not in whatever life I might have left.
Wise!
One of my favorite quotations is either by this fellow or his partner. Paraphrasing....
“When we first started and I owned half of the co, I quickly became a millionaire. When went public and I retained 1% of the co, I became a billionaire.”
The other Home Depot guy Ken Langone is also a good conservative. Even though a lot of what they sell is made-in-China middling-quality stuff, I like HD and appreciate that their founders are patriots.
Hope you are right....did not happen last week.
I need to go to Home Depot today and pick up some stuff.
Let’s look at the numbers:
In state Senate races in Virginia, the aggregate statewide vote was Ds 50 to Rs 49, with the remainder scattered about third-party and independent candidates and write-ins. We lost by 1 point.
In comparison, Biden beat Trump 54 to 44 in 2020, 10 points.
In terms of seats, the Ds picked up the House of Delegates.
Virginia can be spun either way. But, we only scored a moral victory in closing the gap in the statewide popular vote, and they scored a real victory taking control of the House of Delegates.
It’s like 2016. Hillary won the nationwide popular vote, and Trump won the electoral college vote. One’s a moral victory, the other is a real victory.
In terms of Governors, in Kentucky, a D governor was re-elected by 5 points; and, in Mississippi, an R governor was re-elected by 4 points. In Louisiana, the Rs picked up the Governor.
Saying the Ds won for Governor is saying that Ds win when they don’t lose badly. No. Ds lose when they lose.
So, bottom line: we picked up a Governor, and they picked up a state legislative chamber. Approximately, a draw. We didn’t win, but neither did the other side.
The 2024 elections are now before us, and what is behind us isn’t going to determine the outcome.
“My sense is that the country is getting ready to bust out big for the Republican ticket.”
Ever person in the USA could vote GOP, but that doesn’t mean Trump will end up in the White House.
I always shop Menard’s, where possible, never like HD (prices too high). The town where I live now has only HD & Lowes, so HD it is. I feel better about it after reading this.
Like in 2020? When Trump says he won every state but somehow lost the election. And, when Trump was told by every one of his advisors that he lost, but he refused to believe them because, you know, he won every state.
No. If we win the vote, we’ll win the election. This means voter integrity. It also means that we have to vote.
I suspect that most of you negative types aren’t Trump supporters stuck in post-election funk; but, are paid by Putin to sow dissent in this country. Which are you?
