What email would you presently suggest for personal use?

Gmail has gotten to the point that it regularly locks me out of my accounts for a week or more.

Im tired of them using phony security concerns to track my location, accounts, devices, etc.

Looking for free accounts for personal use.

Interested in hearing about your experience using other emails, both the pros and cons.

What are your suggestions?

That sounds like Facebook, bad news. I have too many email accounts and domains for work and all, sometimes a pain to keep straight but I do manage to keep them separate. One key is to not let them upload your contact list.

feel free to send me a private message to discuss details… I currently use Gmail with free and paid business and family accounts, Ionos for some others, and other email hosts.

Outlook spies on you. All sorts of stuff gets sent back to Microsoft about what you read, activities, and etc.

Email sent can be traced at the receiving end. If it hits the internet then it can be traced.

I use hMailServer on my Windows PC. I use ClouDNS to keep the dynamic IP address synchronized.

I have used Mail.com for about 20 years. It is an internet based free email service. It also has a premium version that has no ads. I’ve never tried the premium version because the ads dpm]t bother me.

So you send an email from domain A to domain A. It stays encrypted. If you send it from domain A to domain B it is decrypted and it can be snooped.

I presume that this is the case with Proton. Once it is stored on the email database server and never leaves the server, never traverses the internet, it is secure.

For example, Proton client A sends an email to Proton client B, the front end is encrypted and it is sent to the back end server (IMAP?), the email is “emailed” on the and via the “local server” and re-encrypted for the outbound trip.

The point being that the email never traverses the internet unencrypted.

Of course, what happens on the client is up to the client software and apps. Someone could hack into the smart phone or PC and read the emails.
