IMO, he's a good guy at heart who spent too much time listening to the insane rants of Trump-hating pro-Palestinian lunatic Justin Amash, and it rubbed off on him.
It's like well meaning people who get seduced by crazy cult leaders and STILL repeat some of their cult leader's ramblings years AFTER the cult leader gets arrested and they realize they were wrong to sign up... time for deprogramming!
