This is how you’ve made it so long, Spunky! And you’re sharp as a tack! You’ve probably got a great immune system.
Truth be told, I do about the same. Wash outer leaves, run the fruit under water, peel the green onion. Nobody may want to eat at my house either lol.
My pies are ok though. I do peel the apples lol. Oh, Spunky, you don’t swing those contraptions around your head, silly. The salad spinner is actually a very efficient way of washing the lettuce. I did used to use one of those for romaine and leaf lettuce.
What is kind of scary is that many of the bugs that get into produce these days is not from the outside handling. It’s from the migrant workers using the fields as their washroom. Down into the dirt it goes, gets rained on, up into the plants. You can’t wash that out. Sorry.

Oh they have a NEW fangled contraption?
Years ago, must have been like 60, I watched my husbands BIL flinging a thing arourd his head and I thought he was crazy because I had no idea what he was doing.
“The swinger
Place wet lettuce leaves in the center of a clean dishtowel. (You could also use a clean pillowcase!)
Bring all four corners together and twist the towel so it holds all the leaves inside.
With the ends gathered in one hand, swing the towel around like a lasso several times. (You might want to do this outside or in the bathroom to avoid water splatter).
Unwrap towel and use greens.”
