Speaking of fruit (how’s that for a segue?) my battle with the fruit flies is not going well.
I have plied them with enough wine and beer and now they are numerous AND drunk.
I have ordered a couple of small zappers from Amazon. They should be here Sunday. I wish I had known about them weeks ago. I hope it makes a little noise every time one gets fried....I will enjoy myself immensely.
I hate bugs. All of them. Not a good one among them. And the pretty wings of a butterfly don’t fool me - it’s still just an ugly caterpillar.

Many, many years ago we had a bug zapper you hung outside. That was my husband and my entertainment. Sitting out on the patio in the evening watching them get ZAPPED. We FINALLY realized it was the light in the zapper that WAS attracting them to the patio. Unpluged it and never had bugs coming to the patio again. :-)
I can’t imagine the fruit fly problem you are having. I have had fruit flies on occasion when I have had ripened fruit sitting for awhile, but once I remove the fruit they were gone. Could there be something outside that is attracting them to your place?
Judy the fruit fly problem isn’t your household - it’s national to various degrees. Here in NC on the local Neighborhood groups there are many frequent HELP regarding infestation We personally have them. Friends in NY, Iowa, Michigan all reporting. This is seemingly competing with stink bugs to be the most annoying household pest
