I’m one of those people who believes that a home is not complete without a pet (I have four cats myself), and love it when a favorite TV character or family has a loyal companion who can add to the adventure or the comedic antics of a show. Some of these adorable animals have become as famous, if not more so, than the human actors of a series.

One of the funniest bits ever on SNL was when Mr. Ed died, The brought a horse into the studio and Dan Akroyd did the voice of Mrs. Ed. The last line, of course, was “A corpse is a corpse of course of course. Jane Curtin lost it.

Another dog named simply “Dog” was the one on Petticoat Junction, who I believe also played “Benjie” in the movies. His real name was Higgins but he was just “Dog” on Petticoat Junction.
I always thought the cutest dog on TV was Murray on Mad About You.
