True that. There is an aspect of war on Christianity going on here. But unfortunately, there's also the aspect that the Russian orthodox church is vehemently endorsing Russia's invasion of Ukraine. It'd be easier to argue for the good guy in this if one of them actually was a good guy.
Christianity is becoming more popular in Iraq. Many are receiving Christ because of the war.
I have a close friend who married a Ukrainian woman. He makes numerous trips to Ukraine.
The priests which are being jailed by Ukraine are those closely associated with Russia, who Ukraine believes are spies. Russia is jailing/killing Ukraininan priests and evangelicals who it believes are working with Ukraine.
Being a priest does not make a person inviolate during war.
When I was working in Iraq, I was tasked to provide security for some State Dept and UN election monitors. We were on the outskirts of Mosul. I spent most of my time in and around Baghdad.
Got to Mosul and was put up at a large US base. As I looked out from the base and on the drives around the city, only the Infantry guys were allowed in the city at the time, I say Christian crucifix’s all over the place.
I was told that that area was heavily Christian and that Hussein didn’t mess with them nor did he allow anyone else to mess with them.
I was at another church, oldest church in Iraq, with some Army Chaplain’s who went there to see what was needed to fix the place up and get it up and running again. It had not been damaged during operations. It was small but absolutely beautiful. Have to wonder if it’s still there.
Probably not so much anymore.

One denomination is being suppressed (The Moscow patriarchate flavor of Orthodoxy), and its questionable if it counts as a denomination, given that the argument is over governance, not rites, beliefs or traditions. Its more like a dispute among Baptist churches.
