Here is an actual video of a twenties guy and many more hanging out on the beach, not in the army, and you dispute it?
I am making a trip later in the week to another city, and will post another video of ordinary life there, with many young guys living normal life.”

You may notice ‘factual information’ is not appreciated by those creating an anti-Ukraine Spin-zone. 😉

The Ukraine has had almost exactly the same amount of time as Hungary has had to improve itself and throw off the Communist shackles. One has succeeded, because it hasn’t been ruled by one corrupt regime after another and pandering to the globalist oligarchs to serve as criminal states for them, the other has summarily failed because it has. Even when America pumps billions to it (most of which is going to said criminals), it still remains a corrupt basketcase.

If “The Ukraine” wanted to improve, it could do so, but it hasn’t, and it never will, because like the old adage goes, doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome is the definition of insanity. Russia reclaiming its historic (pre-1991) territory could not possibly do a worse job of ruling it if it tried (short of returning to its Communist roots). Reminds me of countless cities in America that keep electing one Demonrat Communist after another and folks act shocked why it not only doesn’t improve, but gets worse every 4 years. Zelensky was just the latest political fraud to sell the voters a bill of goods, like every Demonrat Mayor in America. Only, at least, said Mayors haven’t suspended elections and declared themselves Dick Tator... yet.

I’m not interested in Youtube videos made for propaganda purposes. There’s enough of that garbage in America for the Demonrats.

Ukraine had no socio-cultural memory of a pre-Soviet “normal” state of affairs. Especially not a positive one. Go read Maxim Gorki.

Hungary did, Poland did (somewhat), etc.

There are four reasons why the US has a globe spanning military and alliance system:

(1) To avoid having the world become led by nations hostile to American national security;

(2) To maintain the value and attractiveness of the US dollar as the global reserve currency, which permits us to finance our massive public deficit due to spending on Medicare, most of all;

(3) To protect American trade and economic interests and to have access to the world's resources; and

(4) To keep in check nations (Russia and China) that have nuclear weapons that could utterly destroy the US and its allies within a matter of hours.

Saying that Russia and Ukraine are in a "civil war" presupposes that Ukraine is inherently a part of Russia. That is simply untrue, historically or legally. Indeed, at the end of the Cold War, Ukraine gave up its stock of Soviet nuclear weapons in return for assurances from Russia, the US, and the UK that Ukraine's independence would be honored and protected.

As for what you refer to as Ukraine's dysfunction, it is a far better place than Russia, a dismal nation run by gangsters.

Largely because it was never a country, but an integral part of the old Russian Empire. It’s better off at this point returning to its place within Russia. It certainly could not be managed any worse than at present. Put an end to the death and destruction and chronic corruption.

"(1) To avoid having the world become led by nations hostile to American national security;"

Like Red China ? The same Red China that's been getting our military and nuclear secrets handed to them on a silver platter since at least the Clintoon Regime (and quite possibly, even earlier).

"(2) To maintain the value and attractiveness of the US dollar as the global reserve currency, which permits us to finance our massive public deficit due to spending on Medicare, most of all;"

That's gone straight into the toilet. And this beyond obscene spending spree on everything but what needs to be spent on will have consequences for us that will plunge us into third world status before long. And frankly, I think it's already here. Much like Rome, you can only expand out so far before an inevitable collapse.

"(3) To protect American trade and economic interests and to have access to the world's resources; and"

At the point of a gun.

"(4) To keep in check nations (Russia and China) that have nuclear weapons that could utterly destroy the US and its allies within a matter of hours."

And we're doing everything we can to provoke the former, while the latter is undermining us with the help of its installed regime in Washington. What a joke.

"Saying that Russia and Ukraine are in a "civil war" presupposes that Ukraine is inherently a part of Russia. That is simply untrue, historically or legally. Indeed, at the end of the Cold War, Ukraine gave up its stock of Soviet nuclear weapons in return for assurances from Russia, the US, and the UK that Ukraine's independence would be honored and protected."

Because it inherently was a historic and integral part of Russia for hundreds of years. It had 32 years to prove it could stand on its own two feet and establish itself as a modern nation. It summarily failed. We (the U.S.) has no moral justification to protect the rights and interests of a corrupt state that failed to hold up its end of the bargain of being a "grown up" partner. Now, like with any country, you can't expect perfection, but by every reasonable measure, it couldn't do it. Now it has become a threat to the region, and with a deranged self-declared dictator demanding weapons of mass destruction, a threat to world peace.

"As for what you refer to as Ukraine's dysfunction, it is a far better place than Russia, a dismal nation run by gangsters."

Simply untrue.

It will be vastly worse off under Russia.
Russia is the definition of corruption, as it permeats the entire society. The only reason modern Russia works at all is because it is a petro-state.

Ukraine has the option of joining the EU and, eventually, becoming a normal country, not a despised province of a despotic monstrosity.

I disagree. I think it will flourish under Russia (it certainly won’t under the EU unless it drastically changes how it operates, and that isn’t going to happen given the past 32 years. That’s like expecting America’s major cities to start spontaneously electing Trump Republican Mayors). These negative claims against Russia simply are just that. They have their act together far more than the United States does at the present time.

"I asked a simple question and you failed to answer so yes you were pinged here to troll me and have no problem with me being called masturbator in the post that pinged you. In fact you pretend that is normal from your experience."

Yeah, OK. Twisting words and sidestepping my questions again. Ugh.

Defend yourself, like everyone else on these threads does. I defend myself here, though occasionally someone will step in to defend a postion of mine, which is OK with me. But never expected. Why do you think it's my duty to step in and defend you from insults? Have you ever defended me against your Youkazoidal co-religionists who've relentlessly called me a "Putin fellater," "Putin Puffer," "Putin Stooge," Soviet propagandist," "communist," "Soviet propagandist," and, in Widgy Midgie's (No CCCP 2.0 Slavo U Crayknee!!!) case a "loud mouth, burned out, wannabee rock star?"

What was that old bit about "sticks and stones?". . .

If you're too thin skinned to handle heat, then walk away from the barbeque, man!

Well, E3, I see you have finally found a problem you can claim as yours. Too bad it’s the melting down of a statue to an American traitor, so the metal could be used for a memorial to the victims of the war he fought.

I too have a problem, 2 of my grandchildren are currently in the US military service and may have to deal directly with some of the mischief your guy in Moscow is causing for millions of innocent people.. Thanks buddy. ;-(

Now who’s making false allegations ? More than a few Zelenskybots here are not American residents, yet they think they’re allowed to dictate our foreign policy and where we should send tens of billions of American taxpayer dollars to support the corrupt Kiev dictatorship.

For the record, I’ve never set foot on the European continent or Russia, nor have been paid in any shape, matter or form to advocate for them. However, I do know those who have been to Russia and their experience with the country is absolutely at odds with what has been said about it by its “haters.”
