I’ve found in my own family people either love or hate, hate, hate mincemeat.
My grandmother made mincemeat from real meat - my mother used jarred mincemeat which has no meat in it, the base is apples. I grew up eating the “jarred” variety w/o meat and I really love it.
Really divides our Thanksgiving table, LOL.
It’s one of those things that people either hate or love, there is no middle ground............
I always liked the stuff myself. Though IMO if it doesn’t contain meat, it isn’t really mincemeat by definition, so it should be called something else.
I put up “mincemeat” every apple season and I do a couple versions of it. One with apples and dark raisins, one with apples and golden raisins, , another with apples and cranberries, and the last with apples, dark raisins, golden raisins, prunes, minced walnuts, and cranberries.
Dark rum and brandy are included in each along with a teaspoon of bacon fat for flavor.
Yep, we also had the jarred version. It was evidently some sort of Christmas culinary tradition, like pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving. I hated it.
