"Some believe though that the time will come when Christ and his angels will breach the gates of Hell....and liberate the souls trapped there who repent and wish forgiveness."
That is a belief that will only bring about eternal death. TODAY is the day of salvation - your name is either written in the Book of Life, or it is not.
Like the problem of evil, Hell presents some deep theological difficulties. How can a just, loving, and merciful God condemn mortal and limited humans to eternal suffering? And if humans truly have free will, they can repent even in Hell. That being so, shouldn't that repentance be credited by a merciful God and lead to rescue and redemption? If we believe that Satan will one day be overthrown, doesn't that imply that Hell, his place of strength and refuge will also be overthrown?
Of course, these kinds of issues should not distract from the larger point that sin and Hell are to be avoided and God's grace sought and embraced.
