Total Slide. Read past if you don’t want to go totally off topic.
I am planning an estate sale to get rid of lots of my parents’ stuff— plates and other collectibles that are not of much interest to people these days, decent and not so decent knick knacks, some furniture, etc. I’d like to get a fair amount of people come by and by this stuff because they want to try to upsell it on Ebay. I don’t have the patience to do that myself. I want it gone. Too many weird things going on in the world to try to sell this stuff for decent coin by put a dozen items up for a sale a month. It would take years. I’m holding what I think are the best 50 items back to see what market there might be in the future, leaving hundreds to get rid of.
I’m interested in what you guys can tell me regarding your experiences in this milieu.
Thanks in advance.

Re: estate sale slide
It is good to avoid selling on Ebay. It has been ruined compared to what it was 10-15 years ago. We do not sell stuff there anymore. Ebay wants a lot of invasive info now from Sellers, including Soc. Sec. number and bank acct. number so they can access them (!). They only allow PayPal as payment from your buyers, and want to deposit (and who knows what else) using your info. A couple years ago we were going to sell a rather valuable item and started going through the new process to enable us to sell again- we were shocked at the invasiveness and did not proceed. We used Ebay for a very long time, has to be 20+ years. We no longer sell anything there. Fees are also outrageous, a large percentage of sale price goes to Ebay, 15% or more or less, depending on type of item. Ridiculous.
When we sold off the stuff from my parents’ house we hired a firm. They took care of everything, had a virtual auction and open houses, etc. naturally it wasn’t free, but we got rid of all the stuff, made a little money, and cleaned out the house.
We live thousands of miles away, so it wasn’t practical to do it ourselves (nor did we want to).
There were some issues and it didn’t go exactly as we had hoped but overall I’m glad we did it that way.
Facebook marketplace and Nextdoor seem to have very active resale pages. Also make sure you advertise your yardsales there.
I used maxsold once, it was a good experience.
They take a cut but come in and organize and list items as an auction for online bidding. Pretty much everything sold. Then they schedule a pick up day and manage the pickups.
