Emergency Takeoff! U.S. Air Force B-52 Bomber Fly at Full Throttle One by One

Witness an extraordinary moment as U.S. Air Force B-52 Bombers execute an emergency takeoff at full throttle! The sheer power and precision displayed by these aircraft are awe-inspiring.

Well, tens of thousands of people were cheering at the Wings Over Houston Airshow this past weekend just watching a B-52 do a flyby. So a takeoff would have been even better.

What I heard was awesome was to see a B-52 up close taking off belching black smoke with a thunderous roar.

I can honestly say, “I’m among the few Sailors who have actually flown in a B-52.” It was amazing and during takeoff, the tail actually lifts off the ground first.

I worked in the DO mission planning section at Blytheville AFB and at the end of an exercise we would all stand out the backdoor and watch the B52s lining up and race down the runway. Awesome conclusion to an exercise.

Airplanes looking at long runways and wanting to minimize wear on the engines.

Worked with a guy who flew them out of North Dakota for bombing runs in Vietnam. Said the reason he always had hard candy was to stay awake during the flight. Said the Air Force had check lists to keep them busy since once they took off, nothing too exciting for the next dozen or so hours.

Yeah. That’s my concern too.
No coincidence that two US Navy carrier battle groups have been sent to the Gulf and now this?

I had a friend that was a navigator on a refueling plane in Blytheville. Probably around 1986(?) when I was there for his wedding. We drove around the base and they had just put up some tall nets in case of terrorist attacks.

A bunch of B-52s were parked outside and he said that they would rotate crews to be on alert to be able to take off in case of war. I asked him “So they’ve got nukes on them right now?”

“I can neither confirm nor deny that.”

But he also said the guys guarding the planes weren’t standing around with their weapons empty.

I did a project near Fort Worth (late 1980’s?) and every night a long line of B-52’s would come in for landing. That was pretty cool. It was a LONG line that stretch off to the horizon.
