At more than one million hours of use and counting, this bulb proves that they really don't make things like they used to.

The Centennial Bulb, as this light has come to be known, is the longest-lasting light bulb of all time. It has been burning continuously since 1901, excluding a short interval in 1976 when the bulb was disconnected from electricity for 22 minutes while the firestation was moved to a different location.

The reason, if you weren’t aware, that carbon filaments were replaced with tungsten filaments is that tungsten filaments can be operated at a high enough temperature to glow white...

...which makes them put out more light and less heat, giving more lumens per watt, compared to a carbon filament.

In other words, a carbon filament makes a better space heater than a light source.

The problem with that idea is that no man would want to spend $10.00 bills.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, Phony-Prez Joe has a lightbulb in his head that hasn't worked at all in over 80 years now.

Be interesting if the Rangers-Phillies meet in the WS, because they started the season playing each other.

Edison may have been a great man but he had many very smart people working for him who never received credit for their inventions. That happens in many labs.

But I don’t believe it has never been off. Our electric grid is not that perfect anywhere. So its been off. Maybe its never been turned off but it can’ have been on the whole time.

it's in a fire station. they probably have UPS.

I little low-wattage dark humor!

He threw shade! :)

What was the movie where it had the scene of the bulb coming up in power? The Sixth Sense?
