I think he was talking about a gun not a fire arm. Something that uses only electricity to expell the projectile.
Thanks, Drew. That would be an electrically fired primer.
Not one you are going to buy…ha ha.
Electric guns are set up to shoot at rates that not achievable through mechanical means. Mostly things like naval anti missile systems and Gatling guns used on aircraft and vehicles. They go through a lot of rounds, very fast.
They are not used widely in infantry because you have to carry batteries as well as the weapon. They get really hot, too.
Without a trigger?
No I just was wondering whether there was an easier to use gun that would be safe
Metal Storm was a prototype gun that fired projectiles with electronic primers. Not sure whatever happened to them.
I took his question to mean electrically operated, but not necessarily a rail gun, when he asked if "or are they all mechanical."
Lots of electric. I used a 25mm bushmaster a lot.
I think they are for sale. They aren’t good for anything except scaring the neighbors cat but I believe they were in production.
Here is the one Ian McCollum reviewed.

A man in Finland used a portable drill to make a machine gun.
The cops weren’t amused.
Many years ago I was on an international shooting team and one of the pistol events was called, “Free Pistol.” Some of the competitors modified their trigger so that they only had to touch a solenoid button to fire.
The following is a description of the event: 50 meter pistol, formerly and unofficially still often called Free Pistol, is one of the ISSF shooting events. It is one of the oldest shooting disciplines, dating back to the 19th century and only having seen marginal rule changes since 1936. It is considered to provide some of the purest precision shooting among the pistol events. The target of this event has not changed since 1900, and the 50m distance has remained the standard since 1912. The sport traced back to the beginning of indoor Flobert pistol parlour shooting in Europe during the 1870s.
Or as I called it, Space Gun.
World domination would be nice. I was just wondering whether there were easier to use guns.
Gosh I was just thinking of an easier to use revolver or some such.
Goodness. Not quite the personal protection I was imagining. Lol
Oh yeah! The guys at OK Corral were all firing electric revolvers. Pickett’s Charge at Gettysburg only failed because they ran out of extension cords. Honest. Would I lie?
Something like that would be a cannon wouldn’t it.
