Yes. You can’t aim a shotgun.
Imagine this: a bad guy is behind your wife with a knife to her throat but you can see his head. You are 20 feet away in good cover.
Will you take that shot with a shotgun?
I would. I train and know my shotgun pattern and accuracy. As for the wad....who knows, THAT is the only wild card, but a lot less lethal than a tight pattern from a properly tuned and run shotty.
With my then wife? Absolutely!
Imagine this: a bad guy is behind your wife with a knife to her throat but you can see his head.
This is an interesting dilemma. We talk about these scenarios at my gun club all the time. I would wait for an open shot. The bad guy is dead if he kills his human shield. If he dragged her while retreating I’d follow. Sooner or later the situation would be resolved. Not to mention even at 20 feet with an AR, you have to take into account the adrenalin and emotion that would interfere with a precise shot.
Tell the gunman go ahead you’re next

Will you take that shot with a shotgun?”
This question requires actual facts for a good answer. If you have worked with your shotgun and load on a pattern board, you know the right answer. I have and in my case I will take the shot at 20 feet. Terrorist dead, wife untouched.
A person who has not done the work and is unfamiliar with his weapon should not take the shot.
You might if you were Bill Clinton.
i have practiced that shot with a shot gun...
i would take the shot.
“ Will you take that shot with a shotgun?”
With a slug, for sure.
