Scalise was recently diagnosed as having multiple myeloma, a nasty blood cancer. It is treatable but needs chemotherapy which can make you feel lousy.

Yes, but he said his doctors said he could do it. Maybe he didn’t know how bad the effects would really be.

Maybe he recognized that the effects of chemo made him seem weak to the group and support was waning.

Maybe he never intended to really serve and he and McCarthy pulled this to whip up more fury against Gaetz.

Given his fervent support of McCarthy and the secret deals McCarthy made, I lean toward the last one.
