As I mentioned, some scholars trace its root to the Arian heresy. No doubt this was influenced by the indigenous culture they migrated into.

"Sin is the god of the moon." This is apparently an Indian God(dess) that was retitled Allah. The Satanic verses involve the verses in which Allah has 3 daughters, the daughters of the moon. Humm. They tried to toss that one in the memory hole!
