Whales and dolphins in American waters are losing food and habitat to climate change, US study says

Whales, dolphins and seals living in U.S. waters face major threats from warming ocean temperatures, rising sea levels and decreasing sea ice volumes associated with climate change, according to a first-of-its-kind assessment.

Researchers with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration examined more than 100 stocks of American marine mammal species and found more than 70% of those stocks are vulnerable to threats, such as loss of habitat and food, due to the consequences of warming waters. The impacts also include loss of dissolved oxygen and changes to ocean chemistry.

The scientists found large whales such as humpbacks and North Atlantic right whales were among the most vulnerable to climate change, and that other toothed whales and dolphins were also at high risk.

The study, published last month in the journal PLOS ONE, is evidence that the way the U.S. manages whales and dolphins needs to adapt in the era of climate change, advocates for marine mammals said. …

Plenty of tasty, 2-leg morsels swimming at the beach during the summer.

So they will go somewhere else and the sea life they consume in American waters will increase; that’s all.

Too bad they are not mobile and like swim to another area. /s

One of the things that put humans at the top of the food chain is because humans can adapt. You can find humans living in jungle, in deserts, in the frozen north.

Darwinism implies those species that can not adapt die out.

Whales and Dolphins can be found all over so I doubt they are actually in danger but they can be used to promote the big lie - man made climate change

I was watching half a dozen Humbacks frolicking in Frederick Sound this morning over my morning coffee. Considered a picturesque nuisance up here, commercial fishing being the primary industry. They eat a lot of salmon and foul nets.

The role of the atmosphere in heating the oceans is negligible because water has a significantly higher specific heat.

It’s isn’t the air on top of the oceans that determines its temperature, it’s the land beneath it.

Isn’t “vulnerable to threats” the definition of what the words ‘vulnerable’ and ‘threats’ mean? A threat isn’t a threat if one isn’t vulnerable to it. Just because a vulnerability exists, does not imply that a threat is looming.
