The phone companies are not permitted to allow you to turn off National alerts per government rules, regs, laws or however they do it. In my phone settings, it says “National warnings cannot be turned off”.

I was at a musical. Before the performance began, the director came out, introduced himself, and told everyone to completely turn their phones off, not even in airplane mode. Then they spent the next 5+ minutes having the staff help the audience do it if they didn’t know how, including Apple Watches. Not a peep during the show. It was great!
