Whichever side FJB supports will surely be the WRONG side! There has been bad blood between the Serbs and their neighbors for centuries. During World War II the Nazis, with the help of their lackeys the Albanians and Croats, slaughtered Serbs wholesale. After the breakup of Yugoslavia the Serbs finally had an opportunity for payback. Of course the US was on the side of the Croats. No doubt FJB will put us on the wrong side again. Whatever happens there, I’ll back the Serbs.

In 1941 Hitler carved up Yugoslavia. The Italians took Montenegro and Kosovo (they already had Albania) and part of Croatia. The Bulgarians took Macedonia. The Hungarians also took a bit of territory. The Germans installed puppet regimes in Zagreb (controlling Bosnia and the remainder of Croatia) and in Belgrade (controlling Serbia). The Ustashi regime in Zagreb was guilty of genocide, chiefly against the Serbs, but they had little popular support. Many Croats joined the Partisans and died fighting the Germans and Italians.

More than 1 million Yugoslavs died in the war, of all ethnic groups--the death rate for the Serbs was the highest but it wasn't much lower for the other groups.
