Yeah some sprouts will grow back. Whether they survive to a full-blown tree? Possibly.

Maple, Birch, Popular are all huge stump sprouters. Not sure about Sycamore. Whenever I cut down any of those trees I pour undiluted Roundup right around the stump along the cambium layer. That is the living part of the tree between the bark and the wood that conducts sap between the roots and the leaves.
