A lot of this is Monday morning quarterbacking from today’s perspective (for instance, the horrible Elvis movies made a l lot of money) but the one I agree with 100% is ‘American Beauty’ winning Best Picture in 1999. It was horrible. I remember being dumbfounded by the decision. That was before I was fully attuned to how Hollywood hands out Oscars but still, it was a horrible, poser movie.
I had a similar experience when I watched the last Best Picture winner, Everything, Everywhere, All At Once.
It was okay; but, I just didn't know what the point was to this movie. I suppose they gave them Best Picture because it was an Asian cast which had a Lesbian character. It certainly could not have been the "quality" of the movie.
Hollywood is gone. It puts out a horrible product and deserves the death it is now experiencing. They really should get a clue by watching what is happening to Disney at the moment. Who would have ever thought 10 or 20 years ago, that Disney would be circling the drain right now because of the decision making of the people in charge.
The reason Hollywierd gave American Beauty the Oscar is because the movie blasts away at white middle class family structure and makes an ex marine the bad guy.
It hits all of the right negative buttons (wrongly) and that’s what the POS leftists loved about it.
