Why fury? She is nothing different that she’s ever been. She is a self-loathing (yes, really), nation-loathing, humanity-loathing miserable wretch. She will not age well ... and she knows it. That is a large part of what makes her miserable.

Rome was way more multicultural. It spanned the whole Mediterranean, all of Western Europe, the Levant, Egypt, the Balkans, Asia Minor, North Africa... Dozens of languages. The lingua franca was not really Latin. East of Tarentum the common tongue and trade language was Greek. Further East it was Aramaic. Elsewhere this was at least a dozen variants of vulgar Latin. And then there were religions.
Latin was an administrative, scholarly language, but even in this role it shared the space with Greek.

I would rather hear the National Anthem performed by a military brass band and have NO ONE sing it. In fact I hate it when idiots who cant carry a tune try to sing it.

From my POV, which is probably uncommon, being a hands-on engineer as well as being in management (an HQ weasel), that ethnic thing isnt where the American sovial split lies.
I’ve been on dozens of factory floors, service yards, power plants, pumping stations, construction sites, telecom facilities, you name it, and I’ve ridden with lots of service personnel.
And the next day I would be dealing with legal, HR, IT, government relations, State and Federal agencies, you name it.
At that level of where the real work gets done, it seemed to me that the “melting pot” was working just fine. Camaraderie and workplace unity between whites, hispanics and asians was evident, between all the guys in the same boat. Intermarriage was extremely common btw. I’ve been to tons of weddings.
The real split was between the HQ and the field. That socio-cultural gap just kept on getting worse over my forty years in the US, in industrial companies. And then we have higher ed, the bureaucracy and media. The worlds of the guys running CNC machines or pulling cable, and that lot, have diverged completely.
