Jack Smith has filed a ‘gag order’ against former President Donald Trump, aiming to restrict public statements that could potentially influence the outcome of an ongoing trial. The order seeks to prevent comments that might sway the trial’s result or bias potential jurors, the prosecution argues.
Smith’s order cites the court’s “duty” to shield the trial process from external influences that could materially prejudice its proceedings. The order stipulates that parties involved in the case, including their attorneys, are barred from making or authorizing public statements, including on social media platforms, that carry a significant likelihood of causing material prejudice to the case. This encompasses:
Statements discussing the identity, testimony, or credibility of potential witnesses. Statements that are disparaging, inflammatory, or intimidating about any party, witness, attorney, court personnel, or potential jurors. The defendant, in this case, Trump, is also restricted from having surrogates make such statements on his behalf. Permissible Statements: The order does not prevent the defendant or his representatives from:
Quoting or referring to the court’s public records in the case without adding any commentary. Announcing the scheduling or outcome of any judicial process stage. Seeking assistance in gathering evidence. Simply stating, without any additional commentary, that the defendant denies the charges.

The Founders would be stacking them like cordwood by now.
Never mind that the gag orders are 1A violations, will there be a gag order for the gag order violation trial? And then another gag order for that gag order violation trial? And so on and so on and so on?
It means Trump can’t lose as long as he continually violates gag orders.
Again, this proves why qualified immunity must be revoked.
Isn’t a gag order a court order? Meaning the prosecutor can’t just file it except as a motion? Nothing here about the court (judge) issuing a gag order.
For me, following the logic here, even with a the stacked jury that Jerk O.Smith will have ... sounds like he has a flimsy case to me. He now needs to control the public knowledge and opinion beforehand in an attempt to lie afterwords about the legitimacy of his own criminal abuse of feral givernment power.
Yes, Trump has an opportunity to really to pour it on here as violating an unconstitutional gag order is not a crime. Bet they will even say he cannot speak about the unconstitutional gag order without violating the unconstitutional gag order. Would love to see the judge order his arrest for exercising his 1st Amendment rights. Jerk O Smith must not be feeling confident about his rigged jury of demonkkraps in DC.
And Judge Ito looks like the model genius for never clamping down on OJ’s lawyers.
Some of the comments here are based on should the gag order be granted. Which is very possible given the anti-Trump, pro-feral givernment judge in the case. The court accepted receipt of the order most likely, but has not issued the order ... yet.

Um...correct me if I’m wrong, but the swamp creature can file any damned thing he wants:
It means nothing if the puppet judge hasn’t issued a ruling decreeing such.
Mr. Smith can wish in one hand and crap in the other.

Restrict public statements that could potentially influence the outcome.
The Constitution has been removed from display for umm restoring yeah that’s the ticket.
And if we the public get too involved by say emailing the idiot president in DC,
or Pelosi or any other of the rat brigade what is to stop them from calling their buddies at the IRS or the fBI to investigate any citizen?
We live in dangerous times, and I would say most don’t have the capitol to fight a criminal investigation done by the rats of DC.
I don't see how the gag order stands. To put it mildly, nothing that comes out of Trump's mouth is a secret, or any other kind of privileged information. He's a candidate for public office, and free to say anything he wants to that's relevant in that context. If the judge is sensitive about getting called out, I don't know anything in the law that protects him from it outside of his own courtroom.
Just because a judge confects a gag order to halt the political process--a process protected by the First Amendment--doesn't mean he has a right to do so, doesn't mean his order would stand on appeal, and doesn't mean there's anything he can do about it in the meantime.
I'm not a lawyer, just an American, but my guess is that he's giving Trump a great platform to roast a corrupt, partisan judge in real time and appeal to the electorate all the more.
My mistake--it's a prosecutor's application for a gag order, which hasn't yet been granted by a judge. But since a gag order would be blatantly un-Constitutional if granted by a judge, there's no reason to hold back. Let them try to silence a candidate for President in full view of the electorate. It would come off as outer-space-crazy, and touch off more support and a landslide victory for Trump.
He might want to tamp down calling Smith and the judge names a little bit.
I’m sure that hasn’t helped the situation
It wouldn’t have mattered. This is just part of their plan.
Jack Smith deserves to be ridiculed and brought down.
Jack Smith deserves a traitor’s death!!!!!
STFU! These fascist scum deserve to be called every in the book when they persecute my President. Name calling should be the least of their worries.
