Nobody leaves without singing the blues.
“Adventures in Babysitting” w/Elizabeth Shue is an entertaining movie - more of a “PG” version of “After Hours” - a dark comedy about a yuppy’s overnight in Manhattan. VERY FUNNY!!!
“After Hours” is a HUGELY underrated movie directed my Martin Scorsese, starring Griffin Dunne and featuring:
Rosanna Arquette
Verna Bloom
Thomas Chong
Linda Fiorentino
Teri Garr
John Heard
Richard Cheech Marin
Catherine O’Hara
I saw Albert 3 or 4 times in college at the Zoo bar in Lincoln Ne. The showbills for his appearances always said “Master of the Telecaster”. He was a great player and his shows were always epic. I can attest to what the previous poster said about him going out on the sidewalk in front of the bar and playing with that long cord.
Looking back on that time frame when I was hard in my “blues phase” I recognize that I was lucky to see a bunch of legendary players in a small dive bar. Albert Collins, Albert King, Robert Cray, Otis Rush, Lil Ed and the Blues Imperials, Chalie Musselwhite, Magic Slim, Smokin Joe Kubek, Lucky Peterson, Matt Guitar Murphy, Little Charlie and the Nightcats, Johnny Johnson, but the coolest show that I saw there was Buddy Guy. It was a one off show that he played there during the middle of the week. Normally the cover was 5 bucks but that show was $25 bucks and it was well worth it. That was a good chunk of money in ‘89. I think it was ‘89, things are a little cloudy from back then if you get my drift.
He sounds like BB King.
Thanks for the recommendation. I haven’t seen it but am definitely interested. I live in NYC and lived in Manhattan for a number of years. So thanks!
Ha — too cool.
