Fencing suspect at S.F. boba tea shop was charged with similar crimes three years ago. What happened?

Three years before Quoc Le was arrested for running an alleged international fencing operation behind a Tenderloin boba tea shop, he was accused of similar crimes, after Walnut Creek and San Francisco police officers allegedly found him in possession of property that had been swiped from cars.

In the time between Le’s 2019 case and his arrest by the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office this week, Le is believed to have bought and resold an untold number of stolen laptops, phones and other devices, many of them stemming from the area’s intractable smash-and-grab epidemic, according to prosecutors.

His previous arrest raises questions about what happened to his 2019 case and how he was able to keep his alleged fencing operation running. Opponents trying to recall District Attorney Chesa Boudin in an election next month seized Thursday on the 2019 case as evidence that Boudin was content to let Le’s operation continue while belongings were stolen from thousands of San Franciscans and tourists.

Tom Ostly, a former San Francisco assistant district attorney who was prosecuting Le’s case before Boudin fired him shortly after taking office in January 2020, said he believes more could have been done in the initial case against Le.

That’s what first came to my mind when I read “Fencing suspect”. I wondered, since when has the aristocratic sport of Fencing been labeled as a crime?

It certainly is, at least using Bonettis defense expecting your opponent to use Capo Ferro knowing full well that Thibault cancels Capo Ferro (unless youve studied your Agrippa, which I have).

Well, you certainly know your Fencing methods. The only related term I’m familiar with would be “to Parry.”

Oh......fencing. As in stolen goods, I get it. I thought he was hosting duels or something.
