The Euros have sent a LOT more financial aid than the US. Most of the US aid is in the form of weapons.

Of the pricier weapons the Euro’s do send, quite a few then get backfilled with newer, more expensive US weapons’ purchases. So, a pretty good chunk of money ends up back in the US.

I assume your concern about the costs is reflected by a proportionate number of posts regarding Biden’s proposed almost 7 trillion dollar budget.

Naw, but Ukraine has millions of tons of grain to export, which will go to the world's poorest countries, typically in Africa, at discounted prices often supported by charitable organizations.
The problem is Russia's announced blockade of Ukrainian Black Sea ports.
That leaves "the world" writ large with a choice of:

1. Use NATO navies to protect Ukrainian grain export ships near Russia in the Black Sea, or

2. Support more expensive rail shipments of Ukrainian grain to other countries' ports for subsequent shipment to Africa, or

3. Do nothing and let the grain rot in Odessa while the poorest starve in Africa.

I doubt if anyone wants the third option, but which of the first two makes more sense?

Finally, as Paul R. noted in post #73 below, the US has contributed roughly half of the total aid to Ukraine, Europeans the other half, with zero American troops fighting there.
This makes Ukraine a vastly different war by category than any other since World War II.

The only other remotely analogous is our military aid to Israel, which has proved effective now since the 1960s.
