Perhaps to keep real POTUS secure.

The Boeing Honeywell Uninterruptible Autopilot (BHAUP) gives full control of an aircraft to external entities. All modern commercial airliners built in the last decade have been so equipped. Planes so equipped can take pilots “out of the loop.”
