“According to the Texas Film Commission, snow is uncommon in most of the state.”

Yes, always consult the state’s film commission for potential weather events.

When a hurricane is bearing down on the Texas coast, or there are tornado outbreaks on the plains, all Texans tune into the Texas Film Commission.

Those counties listed above are either border counties or close to the Mexican border. Not a good reference point for property taxes.

It was hot as blazes this week in H town.

On the plus side, humidity was only 90% overnight, so we had that going for us.

We've been in the state for almost five years. Our kid for seven years. There are some good and bad things about living here. For those considering Central Texas, be forewarned that the growth rate has far exceeded the area's ability to manage water resources properly, among other things.

I thought California was bad at water management. Holy crackers! We've been on water restrictions (once a week outdoor water) for over three years now. It isn't getting better with the continued drought in the state. In 100F+ degree summer weather with little to no rain, the landscapes are getting fried. We're in the middle of the dark red blob in the center of the state. Ugh.

If I hadn’t moved to NC, I would have moved to Texas, one son lives there and I love it there.

“Wound care dressings (such as bandages) will be tax-free.”

That would be a HUGE plus in Chicago.

Who the hell would want to move to Texas when Biden is going to force illegals to remain in Texas?

Not one person mentioned tornadoes?!
Also, our speaker of the house is corrupt to the max. It’s been a horrible disappointment.
On the other hand, we have Constitutional carry.
Dallas/Houston suck, but there’s tons of open land.

Our formerly red county in IL went blue in the last fifteen years, and my brother lived in Dallas for the last three. He moved back because he missed us - we couldn’t save up enough to move down there. This state is killing us financially, and potentially literally.

For me, it’s Texas or Wyoming. I just want to be away from people and a major city; the caveat being that I need to be within an hour of a hospital thanks to sh¡t health that is no fault of mine.

We’re a conservative family stuck in a Leftist hellhole. We want out.

29% of the growth was from people moving from other states. The other 70% was illegals moving from Mexico.

Except for the brutal heat in summer, Texas is a great. But this heat has been unbearable lately. Frankly, it’s almost too much to bear. Just being honest. You can’t do anything for 3 months. Just stay inside and hope your AC holds up.

Q for Texans because TX doesn’t make it easy to find current info.

Federal aid as a % of general revenues in the Texas budget, what’s it running at in the current budget...?

“While the overall tax burden in Texas is low, some types of taxes aren’t as appealing. One of these taxes is a new Texas tax on electric vehicles that will increase registration costs for EV owners by nearly as much as 800%.”

The 800% number is meaningless, since the extra cost is $200/year, which is less, in some cases FAR LESS, than normal vehicle registration in other states.

On the other hand, I’m perfectly happy if the idiots who buy EVs stay in California and Berkley...so, no complaint to the editor on this point.

I’m a native Texan who has lived other places but now back in West Texas. Low property taxes are a lie—they are among the highest in the US. Sales taxes run in the 8-9%. The summer heat is off the charts and all the state’s big cities are as blue and woke as any other city on the east or west coast. I’d look around...and would take my own advice except I am old and have all my family here.

We have everything in Georgia that Texas has. Heat, rattlers, feral hogs, illegal aliens up the wazoo and Atlanta which is Austin on the Chatahoochee. No need to move. 😉
