My wife and I caught it on an Alaskan cruise three weeks ago. Started with a sore throat. Sense of smell disappeared which was a strong clue. That was weird. Then I got lots of muscle aches like the flu. I never ran a temperature. I never got headache and only a few sniffles / runny nose. The peak was like a moderate cold and lasted three to four days, then it waned. The listlessness and lack of energy lasted about two weeks and slowly went away.
I got a positive home test and then a positive test at Urgent Care. I was at Day 5 or 6 from the first notice of a sore throat when I went to Urgent Care. Doc said Paxlovid wouldn’t help as I was beyond the five day mark from first symptoms, but he gave it to me anyway. I seemed to get better one or two days faster than my wife.
Interestingly, her first two home tests were negative, then the third was positive. She never went to Urgent Care. She coughed more than me.
Neither of us got any respiratory symptoms. I use a recording pulse oximeter at night because I use a CPAP machine (it’s a good, easy way to see if the machine is effective). I never experienced any decrease in blood oxygen.
I used all the normal supplements since April 2020 - Quercetin, Vit C, Vit D, zinc, NAC, melatonin, and nigella sativa (black seed oil). My wife only takes Vit D in the winter (we are almost at 48 degrees north).
We are both 72 and in good health and just slightly overweight. We walk and hike a lot and she plays pickleball five days a week.
My sense of smell slowly came back, but I don’t think its as good as it was before COVID.
So what to make of all this?
It’s easily survivable if you are in good health and only a minimal inconvenience. Like many have said, “it’s a cold.”
Re #25, we are both vaxxed and one booster. After all the news about lack of efficacy, cardiac problems, and myriad other problems, we both said “that’s it” to boosters. No more.
Thoughts?
Thank you for your help.
N-Acetyl Cysteine or just plain Cysteine itself 600 mg/day or 1K mg, and if one is high blood pressure treated— ACE blockers... work to block the ACE2 receptors on lung lining cells which the virus Spike S Proteins on the surface of coronavirus seek out (when virus inhaled) as the “key” to insert the S protein into the “lock” of the ACE2 receptor— which then lets the rna/dna material inside the virus particle virion— into the lung cell for infection.
Block the ACE-2 receptor with prescription Losartan or Candesartan (generic names). ACE inhibitors quinapril and others as an alternative but direct dosed ACE blockers add another layer to all the prevention of infection actions of the supplements. You’ll also never get the flu, whatever it is this coming year (which oddly during covid was a “zero” flu virus year— how convenient and how untrue).
