Slight slide - did anyone see the youtube video where Oprah and The Rock were soliciting donations for Hawaii? The push back was brutal but I was thinking maybe they don’t have any $ because their property/assets have been confiscated by President Trump’s EO?

I read the Rock gave a large personal donation to Maui survivors, and then asked the public to donate. Most of the critics act as if they were just collecting funds and ignore their donations.

Aren’t Oprah and The Rock big landowners on Maui? The residents who were burned out have been resisting efforts to buy them out for years. They don’t trust billionaires who are only using this tragedy to get a tax deduction and leverage the residents into selling. Many other people don’t trust them either.

Yeah, I've been following the Lahaina situation pretty closely on YouTube. Orca got absolutely slammed in the comments on her videos — both the one where she showed up to give people pillows (with camera crew in tow) AND especially the one with The Rock, begging for donations. "She's worth $2.5 billion and she can't pony up a little cash donation? WTH?" Not to mention, she claimed she got the idea from Dolly Parton's actions after Gatlinburg, conveniently leaving out the part where Dolly donated HER OWN money to Gatlinburg.

The people were more livid than anything. Definitely not impressed. I heard that the first weekend following the creation of the "emergency fund," they had only raised $5,000.
