I wonder what would happen if President Trump were to run third party....or would that be fourth party, as well. Make it a 4 way race.

That would be nice if there was any reasonable expectation that an independent could win but that is a big hill to climb.

Think about what happened in 1992:

• Ross Perot was a very strong third party candidate.
  He was quite popular at the time and didn't have a big 'Never-Perot' mob against him like the 'Never-Trump' crazies.
  His major campaign issues were opposition to NAFTA and reducing the $4 trillion dollar national debt. (about $8.8 trillion in devalued 2023 dollars)

• Many republicans were bitter about Poppy Bush breaking his "No New Taxes" pledge.
  But he had just "won" the first Gulf War and the mideast was relatively quiet for which he got credit.

• Bill Clinton was the democrat candidate and even back then democrats marched in lockstep to a much greater degree than republicans.
  And thanks to to the media at the time voters didn't know what a pig he was/is and what a ruthless harridan Hillary is.
  But it turns out that most didn't care anyway.

ELECTION RESULTS:

• Perot pulled almost 19% of the vote which was huge for a 3d party candidate. (the most since Teddy Roosevelt's 27% in 1912)

• Bush took a little less than 38% of the vote. (he had won in 1988 with over 53% of the vote)

• Clinton won with less than a majority at 43%. (he won his 1996 re-election with 49.2%, failing again to win a majority)
