In those circumstances, I understand completely. One of the reasons I opted to homeschool was that I had no car and the school offered no bus service before first grade.

But, in this story, bus service is provided for these 5yo children, yet one parent (or both?) was waiting with a car at the bus stop.

The article says the mother "went to pick up her kids at the bus stop," and when she found out the children were dropped off at another stop, "she went back to her car to tell her boyfriend what was happening." I don't know whether the boyfriend was in the car or she called him from her car. Whatever the case, she then "drove to" the house where the children were last seen on camera. So, she had a car, and she was able to wait at a bus stop for them.

While I agree that she did have a car, it could also be that she took off of work that day to see how things would go for the kids’ first day of school, but will have to go back to work. This is her first kid just barely of school age; she is inexperienced.

Many of the young women today never had a mother who was a “homemaker”, so they go along with whatever the neighbors are doing to shuffle their kids through “the system.” She quickly learned what can go wrong.
