I see help wanted ads for school bus drivers. The pay is good, but I would never want that job.
In this case, the parents have a car, and they weren’t at work. They were waiting with their car for their children at the bus stop.
Why wait at the bus stop? Who not pick the children up at school themselves?
It helps if you like kids. I do. If you don’t like kids the job is hell.
I enjoyed the split shift. No heavy lifting. Plenty of down time on the clock. Could work 20 hours to almost 40 hours a week at my whim. YMMV.
These days, most families of young kids have two working parents; but the little kids get off school around 2:30 or 3:00. Many of the grandmothers are also sitll working so they can get full Social Security and a good pension at 65. It's a hard struggle, given the way people live these days. I lived and worked in a city during those years, where I could nip out to pick a kid up and be back at the desk in 1/2 hour after seeing them to a neighbor granny's rowhouse; but cities are about unliveable now, and suburban families have it very tough to find competent, trustworthy help.
