My grandma used to make a mighty tasty squirrel stew. I inherited the cast iron pan she used to make it. It’s sitting on my stove right now.

“I inherited the cast iron pan “

YOU must have been the “favorite” ....
Stew .... mull .... dumplings ...
Squirrel is a delicacy around here .. done right there are few woodland meals better.

Although raccoon ..... well .... ever wonder why there used to be so many coon dogs?

My dad grew up during the depression and they ate squirrel. Baked, stew etc - it’s always been part of country folks diet.

Same here. Same place granny’s cast iron pan is right now.

What’s wrong with squirrel? Had it growing up along with rattlesnake, frog legs, gator, goat, venison, reindeer and once armadillo (no pearl clutching, please), all the organ meats including brains, heart, tongue, sweetbreads, mountain oysters, sautéed up a bunch of minnow eggs a few times and forgotten a few other unusual meats but no horse that I know of. Meat is meat.

Squirrel stew is underrated, especially here in the 1st world.
