Saw last week where Trump almost got another hole-in-one on a par 3 180 yd hole using an 8 iron.
I'm the same age and height as Trump (but now lighter, lost 50 lbs last 3 years) and would need to use my 5 wood to go 180 yds? Even when my clubs were new 12 yrs ago my 8 iron would only carry 130 yds, now that the clubs are wore out its only 115 yds./s
The distance is in the technology.
Hit an old walnut-burl driver and sliced it. It rolled out right into the trees.
Then, smacked a Callaway BigBertha with graphite shaft.
The ball ended up in the neighbor’s wheatfield.
See, more distance from the tech!

Golf slide -
I’ve been busting at the seams to report that I had my 4th hole in one a week ago today and you gave me an opening that I can’t resist. I’m under 5 feet tall, so I don’t have a very big swing arc and therefore don’t hit the ball very far. I had to use a 4 iron on the 130 yard hole where I got it. I was very popular at the club that day because everyone got a free beverage on me and I had already purchased insurance to cover the first $500 in charges.
I play with a man who hits his 7 iron 180 yards. He’s only 5’10”, but he’s got a wicked wrist snap as the club makes impact with the ball. The snap adds force to the impact, so he’s a long hitter, but when the snap isn’t timed properly, he’s long into the bushes, usually on the left. Maybe President Trump has a bit of wrist action when he comes through the ball and picks up some yardage that way. I’ll have to find a few videos of his swing and analyze it. Being able to hit a 7 iron 180 yards is amazing for a 77 year-old man. I love the physics of golf, in addition to its other attractions.
I was horribly remiss in not congratulating you on your 50 pound weight-loss achievement. That’s fantastic! You’ve lost some mass that helps to hit the ball farther, but you can now move your hips faster through the swing so you shouldn’t lose too much distance if you can get the timing right. There’ll be a frustrating period of adjustment but I’m confident you’ll get used to your new centre of gravity and hit the ball well again. Well done!
