Mine’s more of a manual unit - low, medium, high, UV light on/off, there is a remote for it.... somewhere. I just leave it on low with then UV light on and let it do its thing. If I encounter another issue with nearby fires, the bigger HEPA air filter comes out in addition and I run both at a higher setting.

I don’t mind a slight hint of smoke, but anything more than that is not good.

Sounds like you definitely have a high-end air filter.

Oh, those low-E windows are the way to go. I had them installed in my house some 10-12 years ago. No drafts at all. Not sure that it reduced my bills, but it certainly is more comfortable near the windows in the winter now.

I love the new windows. Being as big as they are and so many of them because of the age of the house, it wasn’t cheap, but they were worth it.

My dogs are so silly. The windows let the sun in to make a sunspot on the floor but there is no heat. The dogs like to nap in the sunspot. LOL It must be instinct because I have had the windows longer than I have had them.

The window installers brought two cordless drills. This old house was built from Red Oak that was cut and milled on the farm. I don’t think anybody owned a tape measure. The drills really struggled during the install. The Red Oak is a blessing and a curse. In over 30 years we have lived here, we replaced the roof three times. The last time it was replaced, we put the colored metal on because shingles wouldn’t stay. Prior to install, the roofer checked out the problem and said nails wouldn’t stay in the Red Oak. He had to install the metal using screws. The old house is solid, but it does have its quirks.
