The closest I ever came to a hole in one was some 20 years ago - a 143 yard par 3 at Creek’s Bend Golf Club (famous for the back holes flooding in high rain periods). Anyway, I hit, I think, a 7 iron off the tee and it landed less than 2 feet from the hole.
In my typical style, I 3-putted the hole for a bogey. LOL
Thank you for the congratulations. Coming within 2 feet of the hole is an excellent shot! The adrenaline rush afterwards probably made that 2 foot putt look three times longer. I can attest that it takes an extraordinary amount of focus not to take a triple or worse on the hole that follows a hole in one. The adrenaline rush takes about an hour to dissipate and makes a smooth swing in the following holes quite a challenge, at least for we amateurs.
