Trump is going to have to say he’s against a national abortion ban and if it’s presented to him he’ll veto it. The rats are going to hit us hard on it and everyone on our side is scared. Women will decide the election and we have no coherent position. on the issue. I’m not counting on us to get it right.

Why would he have to say that? I’d just laugh at such a question and say “The Supreme Court has already taken that question out of the hands of Congress and given it back to the states, so any “national abortion ban” would be unconstitutional and not relevant to discuss.”
Should be an easy decision. It is not a federal issue. The Federal government has no power to ban it in the Constitution.
Trump only needs to say it is directly unconstitutional under Dobbs and the Tenth Amendment.
Stupid. The Supreme Court has already ruled on the issue... it belongs to the States. Keep the Fed Gov out of it and make no such pledge. The only thing this pledge would do is piss off conservative voters while making no dent in the Left's hatred of him.

What he, and every other Republican who will get ambushed on this question, need to do is to tell the leftist attack-reporter to get lost.
There is no ‘right’ answer to the question they throw; it’s only there so whatever they say can be spindled into an ad for the Democrat. (Ref. Tudor Dixon, who didn’t want to win and so happily walked right into that trap). Pro-life answer? Ha ha, we’ll run that 100 times a day. Fake neutral or pro-choice answer? Fictitious PACs will drain any GOP support by broadcasting that answer to conservatives.
All Trump has to do is say it’s not a national issue. SCOTU turned it crack to the states, it can only be decided there. Any national law would be struck down.
He could do that by stating that it's a states' right issue, which is what it became after the SCOTUS decision...
You’ll be pilloried for saying that. But you are right. The revenge of the whores is gigantic. And Trump has already done the heavy lifting by being THE driving force behind Roe vs Wade getting overturned.
Now it’s time to use a little strategic thinking.
And part of me even thinks the Supremes overturning it 4 months before the election was no accident.
The idea of a “national abortion ban” is a poison pill introduced by Lindsay Graham last year to sabotage the republicans’ expected “red tide.” It was effective then and democrats will keep it alive from now on, like pushing grandma over the Social Security cliff, even though no one really thinks it is a good idea.
Give the opposition a handy meme and they weaponize it forever after.
