Well this changes the story thank you.
In all honesty, I was never a fan of “children’s music.” I hate dumbing down art for children.
The soundtrack for A Charlie Brown Christmas remains a favorite of kids AND adults, chiefly due to the late Vince Guaraldi’s style. It wasn’t dumbed down, and it has withstood the rest of time.
While I hate dumbing down art, I DO think this is a matter of age-appropriateness.
When I was nine, I went to several art galleries in the Philadelphia area. I also had a great teacher who traveled the world and showed us pictures from her travels for “social studies.” Most of it went over my head.
And I laughed and giggled at the nudes. But I also had an adult nearby to tell me, effectively, to knock it off. The laughing and giggling stopped. But it was a lot. So far, I’m not damaged.
All that said, some art and music MAY be PG13ish. Or even R. Personally, I would be OK with a parent deciding that Fat Bottomed Girls is too much for 6-year old Mary. However, I would be down with playing hard rock or even some punk for little kids, as well as free jazz and Zappa (though I’d cut _______ and Beer from the playlist).
However, does decorum require that 6-year old Timmy shouldn't go and see Rodin’s “The Kiss”? At what age IS “The Kiss” appropriate?
These are decisions best left to the parents, because every child AND every family are different. But I’m ok with a FBG-free Queen playlist being streamed to kids.
